Lip Neutralization is a specialized treatment for those with two-toned lips (blue or purple), cool, brown, or dark color tones. It is a procedure often performed on clients with darker skin tones or those whose lips have darkened over time due to weather conditions, hyperpigmentation, underlying medical issues, injury, smoking or other circumstances.
It involves injecting neutralising ink pigments into the lip area to balance darker tones and enhance the natural lip colour, shape, and symmetry. The treatment creates a subtle, rather than saturated, effect to ensure natural-looking results. Whilst injectables (lip fillers) are great for adding permanent volume to the lip area, lip neutralization is perfect for adding definition and fullness.
It may take 2-4 sessions of lip neutralization to achieve the desired result. Each session is scheduled at least 6 weeks apart and the practitioner should adjust their technique to meet individual requirements

Using carefully selected warm pigments, I customize each treatment to enhance your natural lip color, skin tone, and personal style, ensuring a beautifully soft and even result.

1. Consultation: We’ll begin by discussing your goals, assessing your natural lip color, and determining the ideal pigment for neutralizing any cool or dark undertones. This is your chance to express your preferences and ask any questions.
2. Mapping the Lips: For lip neutralization, mapping is usually unnecessary for dark lips as the natural outline is already visible. In other cases, I carefully outline the lips to ensure symmetry and create a flattering, natural shape tailored to your unique features.
3. Numbing the Lips: Once the shape is mapped, I apply a numbing cream to your lips to ensure maximum comfort during the procedure. The numbing process will allow you to relax throughout the session.
4. Pigment Application: Using a specialized tattoo machine, I gently apply the selected pigment into your lips, neutralizing any dark or cool tones. This process is done in layers to achieve a smooth and natural-looking result.
5. Evaluation and Adjustments: After the procedure, we will review the results together to ensure you’re satisfied with the color and shape. Any necessary adjustments can be made at this point.
6. Aftercare: You’ll receive detailed aftercare instructions and a tattoo butter to help with healing and maintain the color vibrancy. Proper aftercare is key to ensuring optimal results.
7. Follow-Up: A follow-up session is typically recommended 5-8 weeks after the initial procedure to balance the color and make any necessary adjustments for a flawless finish. For darker, cooler-toned lips, additional sessions may be required to achieve the desired results.
- Swelling: Mild swelling is common immediately after the procedure and typically subsides within a few hours to the next day.
- Redness or Tenderness (Very Rare): Sensitivity or redness in the treated area may occur as the skin heals.
- Dryness and Flaking: Light dryness and flaking are a normal part of the healing process. To ensure smooth healing, avoid picking at the flakes.
- Color Changes: Your lip color may appear brighter immediately after the procedure, as the warm pigments are applied to neutralize the cool undertones. Over time, the color will gradually settle into a more natural tone.
- Itching: Itching can occur during the healing process, but it should not be excessive. Avoid scratching or peeling the lips to prevent irritation.
- Minor Discomfort: A slight tingling or tightness in the lips may be felt, but this should resolve quickly.
- Uneven Color: Minor unevenness in color is common during the healing process and will typically balance out after your touch-up session.
These side effects are generally short-lived and will fade as your lips heal. By following the aftercare instructions carefully, you’ll help ensure optimal results and smooth recovery. If you have any concerns during the healing process, don’t hesitate to reach out for guidance.
